On 15 January 2013, partners of the EU co-funded High V.LO-City project gathered at the headquarters of the bus supplier Van Hool. Van Hool is the Coordinator of this project which aims at speeding up the integration of hydrogen buses in public fleets.

The project will be putting into service by the end of this year 10 hydrogen fuel cell buses (5 in Aberdeen and 5 in San Remo, Liguria), while the creation of hydrogen refueling stations is in progress to service the bus fleets. Another 5 hybrid fuel cell buses are to be integrated into the public fleet services of De Lijn in Flanders by the end of the year. All buses will be servicing main routes in the associated European locations.

The project meeting was combined with a technical visit at Van Hool’s showroom and production facilities, where partners also had a preview of the blue hydrogen buses that are being manufactured and will be delivered to San Remo’s public transport operator (Riviera Trasporti) by February 2013.

The project which started in January 2012 is co-funded by the Fuel Cell Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU).
